Christopher Sparkman was working as a security guard at the FedEx plant facility in Kennesaw on April 29, 2014, when 19-year-old co-worker Geddy Kramer opened fire inside the facility. Kramer wounded six people before turning the gun on himself. Sparkman was the most seriously injured of the victims.

Since the shooting, Sparkman has undergone dozens of surgeries to repair the damage done by Kramer’s shotgun blast. His 26th surgery, performed last month, gave Sparkman unforseen complications which caused doctors to keep him in a medically induced coma for a week.

The surgery to repair a damaged section of Sparkman’s colon turned into five more surgeries to repair a leaking wound in the colon. Surgeons were unable to full repair the damage, Sparkman’s wife said, and Christopher was given a choice between being sent home to either observe a rigid wound cleaning procedure or to stay at the hospital and be fed solely through an intravenous line. Whichever option the Sparkman’s choose,Christopher likely cannot undergo another procedure for a year.

Sparkman’s wife wrote on her blog that anyone wishing to support the family during Christopher’s recovery can write a check or a letter of encouragement to Sparkman’s attorney Levenson & Associates. The full mailing address is:

Other organizations are also stepping up to the plate to help out the Sparkmans; the Kennesaw Police Department has raised over $30,000 for the family during the last 8 days through a GoFundMe campaign, and FedEx is talking to the family about ways it can continue to provide support.
