Fallen Kennesaw Soldier Returns Home

The body of a Kennesaw soldier killed in Afghanistan by a blast from an improvised explosive device will be escorted by law enforcement today following the arrival of his remains at in Marietta.

The motorcade is expected to depart Dobbins between 10 and 11 a.m., the says. The procession will travel north along Atlanta Road, turn right onto South Cobb Drive, head north on Cobb Parkway, turn right onto Blue Springs Road in Acworth, then right onto Old Highway 41, left onto McCollum Parkway in Kennesaw, left on Frey Road and right onto Shiloh Road.

Shiloh Road, which becomes Shallowford Road and then Jamerson Road, will carry's Walsh's body into Northeast Cobb. The procession will then turn left onto Sandy Plains Road, right onto Highway 92 and left onto Mansell Road in Roswell to reach the at 950 Mansell Rd. in Roswell.

Walsh was an infantry platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He is survived by his wife and son, Debbra and Austin Walsh, who live in Raeford, NC, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh of Kennesaw.

He graduated from Coles College of Business in 2008. In addition to the motorcade passing by the university, a memorial service is planned at Kennesaw State on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

American flags displayed on Main Street in downtown Kennesaw are in honor of Walsh. The motorcade is expected to pass through the area between 11 and 11:30 a.m.
