A young Kennesaw boy suffering from a chronic, life-threatening illness and his family have been selected to join 13 other families and enjoy a five day, all-expenses paid trip to Disney World in Orlando next month.

Bert’s Big Adventure, a nonprofit founded by Bert Weiss of The Bert Show on Q100, has been helping families struggling with chronic illnesses to enjoy five days away from reality since 2003. Since the initial adventure in 2003, some 140 families from six different states have benefited from Weiss’ program, the nonprofit’s website says.

One of the 2015 Bert’s Big Adventure recipients is Lake Bozman, an eight-year-old boy from Kennesaw who is battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Lake, his mom Anna, dad Travis, brother Trindon, and sister Cambree, were given the good news by beloved Disney characters like Elsa, Buzz Lightyear, Robin Hood, and Cinderella, who all showed up unannounced at the Bozman home on Dec. 18.

“I know I have said it a million times but thank you to everyone for all of the support and amazing things that y’all have done for our family!!,” Anna wrote to Lake’s Facebook support group the night of Dec. 18. “We know we are so truly blessed!! I am determined to not let cancer keep us from living and enjoying life with Lake!!

“We are so thrilled to have chosen 14 wonderful children and their families to join us for this trip,” said Weiss in a statement. “The trip will be an adventure they will never forget and we feel so honored to be sharing this amazing experience with them and providing the opportunity to be making their days a little brighter.”

A send-off celebration for Lake and the other winners and their families will be held in Atlanta on Feb. 19.
