Kennesaw Diamond Heist Suspect in Custody, Cops Say
Cobb authorities have DNA evidence which links Osniel Labrada-Guillen to the theft of $1 million worth of jewelry from two safes in 2010.

A man wanted by Cobb County law enforcement in a 2010 diamond heist in Kennesaw which saw $1 million stolen from two safes is in custody in Florida, the Marietta Daily Journal reports.
Osniel Labrada-Guillen was arrested on Friday in Miami-Dade County, a Cobb County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told the MDJ. Police recently linked Labrada-Guillen to the Kennesaw heist through DNA evidence, the MDJ said last month.
On Jan. 14, 2010, someone cut the phone lines to Diamonds R Forever at 4200 Wade Green Rd., then cut a hole through the business’ roof to get inside, the AJC writes. The person then broke into two safes and stole $1 million in jewelry.

The AJC reports that some of the stolen items were found the next day inside a bin alongside a Wendy’s bag in Kennesaw. A spoon left inside the bag was swabbed for DNA, but did not match any names in crime databases.
In 2012, a similar jewelry heist was reported in Indiana, the AJC says. Police there acquired DNA from a mask left at the crime scene and matched it to the DNA found after the heist in Kennesaw, but again there was no name.

In March of 2014, Miami police arrested Osniel Labrada-Guillen during a traffic stop. He posted bail and was released, but not before police obtained a sample of his DNA. Running his genetic information through a database, authorities were able to link him to the two unsolved burglaries in Kennesaw and Indiana.
Labrada-Guillen will appear in court in Miami on Dec. 15, the Sheriff’s Office spokesman told the MDJ.
