Kennesaw Killer Insane, Not Guilty

Justin Detrell Wilburn, a 27-year-old Kennesaw man who killed his mother in her Powder Springs home last year, was committed to a state mental hospital Monday after jurors found him not guilty by reason of insanity, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting.

Wilburn stabbed his mother, Joann, 120 times and cut her 60 times on Feb. 4, 2010, the AJC says. He then crashed his car on Barrett Parkway, where he was seen running down the side of the road covered in blood.

He could be released from the mental hospital if he convinces the staff he is mentally competent and petitions the court for release, the AJC says.
