A man sneaked onto the property of a Kennesaw used car dealership one morning earlier this month with a brilliant plan to drive one of the cars off the lot, but ended up in jail instead.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Ghervon Blue of Mableton made it into the lot of the CarMax on Barrett Parkway at 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 4 looking for a car to steal. He managed to get into a few cars on the lot, but wasn’t able to start them, an arrest warrant acquired by the MDJ said. Blue finally got behind the wheel of a 2010 Infiniti G37 and fired up the engine.

Now that he was in possession of the vehicle, he needed to figure out how to make good his escape. It should have been as simple as driving off the lot for an extended test drive, but gates were in place which blocked immediate access to Barrett Parkway, the warrant said.

Anyone who has played enough Grand Theft Auto knows that you can drive a stolen car through inconvenient obstacles like gates, but the real world uses different physics than Los Santos, and in this case life did not imitate art.

Blue tried to knock down the gate with his newly-acquired car, but the gate held firm and the subsequent collision wrecked the Infiniti and heavily damaged the gate, according to the warrant. Defeated, Blue drove the mangled car to the back of the lot and walked away from the area. He didn’t get very far; Cobb County jail records indicate that Blue was arrested at 2 a.m. in the vicinity of the CarMax.

Cobb County jail records also show that Blue has been charged with felony theft by taking, felony entering auto, two counts of misdemeanor second degree criminal damage to property, and one count of misdemeanor loitering or prowling. Blue’s bail is set at $50,000.
