Memorial Day Ceremonies in Cobb County

Kennesaw, Smyrna, Acworth, and Marietta are hosting remembrance events on Monday.

Cobb County residents who want to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers will not have to drive very far to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony.

The Marietta National Cemetery will host a ceremony at noon on Monday to commemorate soldiers who were killed in battle and to honor our still-living veterans. The ceremony will have patriotic music, guest speakers, and a gun salute. All are welcome to attend this free event.

The City of Kennesaw and American Legion Post 304 will host a remembrance ceremony at dusk on Monday at the Historic Kennesaw Cemetery. Taps will be played to honor those who died in service to their country. Attendees should plan to arrive around 7:30 pm.

A bit further afield, Acworth’s Memorial Day event will be held on the shores of Lake Acworth on Saturday at 10 a.m. Congressman Barry Loudermilk will speak at the event, according to the Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department.

If you live closer to Smyrna, you may be interested in participating in the Memorial Day ceremony at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial at 9:30 a.m. Monday. The Smyrna ceremony is organized by the Smyrna Veterans Committee and it is those members of the community who officiate. Join us on this day to honor and appreciate our commitment to peace through strength and sacrifice.

Seating will start at 8:30 a.m. and pre-ceremony/ceremony activities will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Smyrna Community Center.
