Report: Canton Police Department Explorers Money Allegedly Used to Purchase Golf Cart

Canton Police Chief Bob Merchant accused the department's spokeswoman of carrying on a sexual relationship with a recently retired Sandy Springs Police captain and using funds from the agency's Explorers program to purchase a $6,000 customized golf cart for the man's disabled son in an internal memo obtained by Fox 5 Atlanta.

Canton Police Sgt. Stacy Bailey is the , officials with both agencies told Canton-Sixes Patch on Wednesday.

Man Charged in Winston DUI Deaths Out of Hospital, Back in Jail

Michael Cory Camp, 22, turned himself into the  Thursday afternoon after being released from the Atlanta Medical Center. Camp is charged with vehicular homicide and DUI in the head-on collision, on May 2, that , both 20 years old and from Winston.

At the time of the accident, Camp, a Carrollton resident, was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit.

FirstCity Bank Pres., Formerly of Canton, Gets 12 Years in Federal Prison

A former Canton resident who authorities say was part of a multimillion dollar conspiracy to defraud the failed FirstCity Bank of Stockbridge was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison and banned for life from the banking industry.

Mark A. Conner, 46, whose positions with the bank included vice chairman, acting chairman, president and CEO, was also ordered to pay $19.5 million in restitution to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and victim banks, the United States Attorney's Office announced this week. And he agreed to forfeit $7 million, including $1.7 million in cash and interests in multiple pieces of property in Georgia and Virginia.

Smyrna Man Sentenced for Ponzi Scheme

The Smyrna man who defrauded investors out of $2.4 million in a Ponzi scheme was sentenced to two years in federal prison Thursday.

According to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates, Thomas Preston Berry, 43, pleaded guilty to his charges in May 2012. He solicited investors to fund MoGo Consulting LLC, a fictitious software consulting business. Berry told investors that his business provided clients with contractors who performed computer-related services, but that the father and son who owned the MoGo were experiencing problems generating cash flow.

Lilburn Couple Charged with Stealing $800,000

Two Lilburn residents are charged stealing more than $800,000 in a theft scheme in Maryland,according to the Baltimore Sun.

Gregory and Katherine Hair, of White Oak Lane, have been released from the Harford County Detention Center after posting a $50,000 bond each,the report stated.

Hiram Announces City Manager Finalists

 officials on Thursday released the names of six individuals as finalists for the position of city manager.

Following interviews, which have been scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Friday, one of six could be selected by Mayor Doris Devey and city councilmen to fill the position. Should one of them be chosen, the appointment is expected to be made, or shortly after, Friday, Aug. 24.
