The Kennesaw City Council approved the placement of a non-binding ballot question regarding the implementation of term limits for council members to the November, 2016 ballot, The Marietta Daily Journal says. The measure passed 3-2, with Cris Eaton-Welsh, Jim Sebastian, and Debra Williams supporting the proposal.

Mayor Mark Mathews is generally against term limits, telling the MDJ that each election cycle is effectively a term limit if voters disapprove of an elected official’s job performance.

Eaton-Welsh had originally wanted the question on the ballot to be binding, but the city must gain approval from the state legislature in order to change the city charter and implement term limits, the MDJ says.
