What City of Kennesaw Offices Will be On November Ballot?

Two city officials have not decided whether to seek re-election, but one city council member will reportedly step down.

Voters in Kennesaw will be heading to the polls later this year to elect a mayor and two city council members, including filling a vacancy that will be left when a current council member leaves City Hall to seek other opportunities.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that both Mayor Mark Mathews and Councilman Tim Killingsworth are still deciding if they want to run for office again, but Councilwoman Chris Eaton-Welsh has announced that she has completed all her goals as a member of the council and plans to step down when her term expires.

According to the MDJ, pundits believe that Eaton-Welsh may be setting herself up for a shot at the mayor’s office, especially in light of the controversies surrounding the recent votes on allowing a mosque to operate in Kennesaw.

Former city councilman Bruce Jenkins told the MDJ that he believed Mathews hasn’t proven himself as mayor and doesn’t warrant a no-doubt re-election. Jenkins said the city is facing a crisis of leadership, and hoped that elected officials in Kennesaw would learn to lead from the front and embrace public service.

The Cobb County Board of Elections and Registrations reports that Election Day 2015 is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
