2015 Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarships Awarded by Gwinnett AKAs
Gwinnett County's next generation leaders are "Standing on The Shoulders of Giants" with "UAO"
Ten of Gwinnett County’s best and brightest students were recently awarded the prestigious Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship by the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter (”UAO”) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., along with its nonprofit affiliate The Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, Inc. The Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship was established to honor the first African American female superintendent in the state of Georgia, namely Mrs. Beauty P. Baldwin of Gwinnett County. Baldwin is also a charter member of Upsilon Alpha Omega Graduate Chapter.
Scholarship applicants must be of African-American descent, already be accepted to an accredited four-year college or university, possess leadership potential and good character, and must demonstrate superior scholastic achievement.
The 2015 Beauty P. Baldwin Scholarship recipients include: Destiny Brown-Collins, North Gwinnett High School; Kieanna Doctrine, Gwinnett School of MST; Jamila Dyer, Peachtree Ridge High School; Kynnedi Fye, Archer High School; Sabree Harris, Parkview High School; Selemawit Kemsi, Grayson High School; Awung Morfaw, Dacula High School; Elisabeth Petit-Bois, Dacula High School; Lindsey Sharpe, Duluth High School; and Mykel Skinner, Gwinnett School, MST.

Scholarship winners were honored at a special luncheon on June 6 and pictured with Mrs. Beauty P. Baldwin, UAO Charter Member, Karan Rhodes, UAO President (pink, right), and Cassandra Smith, GPS President (pink, left).
About Upsilon Alpha Omega ChapterOn January 29, 1994, thirty aspiring professional women chartered the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group gathered to implement and support the international programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as they pertain to the needs of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Today, Upsilon Alpha Omega, the first African-American Greek-letter organization in Gwinnett County is over 300 members strong, and has made a significant impact on the community.
