“Back By Popular Demand” - Sorority Sisters will “Think HBCU” and Combat Childhood Hunger
Sorority Sisters to Donate Backpacks Filled With Food Items and Render Significant Service to All Mankind

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Pearls. Backpacks. And, an ivy strong love for rendering Service To All Mankind will fuel the hearts of nearly one thousand members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA) from across Cluster V of the Sorority’s South Atlantic Region converging on the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, Ga. October 7 -8.
A two-day event themed “AKA Pearl Perfect and Ivy Strong”, sorority sisters will not only gather to focus on the sorority’s international programmatic thrust, “Launching New Dimensions of Service” (LNDS), but also to implement LNDS initiatives at the local level. Members will “Think HBCU” and give “Backpack Love” under the leadership of South Atlantic Regional Director Sharon Brown Harriott.
“Under our International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson’s, Launching New Dimensions of Service program initiative, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated take great pride in providing community outreach in the areas of educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership and global impact to their surrounding communities and abroad. Alpha Kappa Alpha is not only a sisterhood of women, but an organization that prides itself in service to all mankind,” states Sharon Brown Harriott, South Atlantic Regional Director.

Members have been called to action and look forward to stockpiling their donations beginning at the HBCU-themed reception, “Back By Popular Demand” on Friday, October 7. South Atlantic Region leadership could not be prouder of the overwhelming response of support from their sisters who proudly wear the signature colors salmon pink and apple green. At last year’s conference, members of the South Atlantic Region’s Cluster V donated over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies.
Shevawn Broxton Young serves as the Cluster V Coordinator. This year’s Cluster V Conference is being hosted by the Lambda Iota Omega Chapter of Gainesville, Ga. and the Rho Eta Chapter of Brenau University. Cheryl Gay Brown serves as Cluster V Conference Chairman; Amanda Washington, and FeFe Perry Sirmans serve as conference Co-Chairmen; Alphia Wills is the Honorary Chairman and Priscilla Collins serves as the conference’s Service Committee Chairman.

“We are excited to be able to bring our conference back to Gwinnett County. This is especially true with the success we experienced meeting here in 2015, said Shevawn Broxton Young, Cluster V, Coordinator. While we gather to learn, we will also give back through our service initiative – Launching New Dimensions of Service.”
Cheryl Brown, Cluster Conference V Conference Chairman said, “Lambda Iota Omega Chapter has been preparing for this conference for over a year. We have worked tirelessly to ensure this conference exceeds expectations.”
Georgia is one of three states, including Florida and South Carolina that make up the South Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha. The region is comprised of 165 graduate and undergraduate chapters and 10,000 members. Cluster V is one of, and the largest of several clusters of the South Atlantic Region. It is comprised of the metro-Atlanta, North Georgia and Middle Georgia graduate and undergraduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
