A FREE Disaster Preparedness Summit will be hosted in Gwinnett County by Noah's Ark in partnership with The Joseph's Network and Red Cross.

The Joseph’s Network in collaboration with the American Red Cross, and Noah’s Ark is hosting- “The First 72 Hours Summit”, to help communities prepare for emergencies and disasters. The event will take place in Gwinnett County on Thursday, October 23rd from 8-am-to-12-pm. These are all nonprofit organizations that are working together to involve the directorship of different faith and community groups in disaster preparedness.
Every year floods, tornados and earthquakes hit several parts of the world. We expect calamities to hit, but don’t prepare for it. Research studies have revealed that majority of the Americans are uninformed of how to respond to such disasters. The year 2011 was a bad year for such misfortunes. According to the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), there were 99 major disaster declarations in 2011.
These nonprofit organizations felt the need to address this national issue at the local level. “The First 72 Hours Summit” is free to attend where people can learn about the disaster preparedness program and understand the need and role played by several different emergency response agencies such as, Federal Emergency Management System (FEMA) and Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). Experts from FEMA and GEMA will also explain their roles in preparing, preventing and recovering from all weather hazards. Special presenters include Janay Stargell Praise & Preparedness Coordinator from GEMA, representation of Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale County Health Departments, Gerald Gifford who is the Emergency Prep Manager & Strategic National Stockpile Planner including others.
