Get Ready, Gwinnett, Here Comes the Big Chill

Overnight lows Thursday and Friday nights are expected to be well below freezing.

If you haven’t broken out your cold-weather clothes yet, get to it, because it’s about to get pretty frosty around here.

According to weather forecasts, north Georgia is about to be blasted by some of the coldest air of the season, with low temperatures expected to dip well below freezing by the weekend in the region.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City said a cold Canadian air mass will move across the state Wednesday and push the temps down to the 20s and 30s by Friday and Saturday mornings. Wind gusts to 15 mph will make it feel even colder.

The forecast for Gwinnett County calls for overnight lows of 30 degrees Thursday night, 28 degrees Friday and 33 Saturday. The high will be 47 Friday and 50 on Saturday, followed by a cold rain Sunday, with a high of 48.

The weather service recommends covering delicate plants and protecting your pets through the cold snap.
