LOCAL PRIMROSE PRESCHOOLERS DONATE 1,049 NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS

Help Serve a Holiday Feast to Gwinnett County Families

Lawrenceville, GA, (November 26, 2014) – Demonstrating their commitment to giving to others, Primrose School at Sugarloaf Parkway families recently helped feed hungry families throughout the Lawrenceville area. On Tuesday, November 25th, the preschoolers donated 1,049 food items to the Lawrenceville Co-Op Ministry.

“Children from the Primrose School at Sugarloaf Parkway participated in this food drive over the past month, but they did much more than simply bring in items from their parents’ pantry,” says Tanisha Turner, Primrose School owner at Sugarloaf Parkway. “The students earned money by completing extra chores at home, combined their earnings and then counted them in the classroom. They reviewed grocery store sale advertisements and clipped coupons to find best values on nutritional food and created a detailed shopping list to shop for local families in need.”

This donation comes when American families find themselves in critical need. One in six Americans face hunger and many turn to food banks such as the Lawrenceville Co-Op Ministry. According to the USDA, about 49 million people – including 16 million children – are struggling with hunger in the U.S.

As part of the Balanced Learning® Curriculum, Primrose Schools’ Caring and Giving program helps to create a hands-on approach to math, nutrition and planning skills. In addition, the students enhance their character development through the value of generosity, giving without expectation of reward.
