Maintenance Technician - Traffic Operations

Gwinnett County is looking for this full-time position

This is the first level in the maintenance technician series. Incumbents are being trained on the job for heavy equipment operation and repair of public works infrastructure. 

  • Assists in the operations of various complex vehicles and equipment, and performs associated labor duties in the construction and maintenance of public roadways, sewer, water, and/or storm water lines.
  • Assists with the maintenance of proper traffic control at work sites to ensure safety for both the work crew and the motoring public.
  • Assists with the daily inventory checks on service trucks and obtains proper tools and/or equipment to perform job task.
  • Assists with transporting materials and heavy equipment to various work sites. 
  • Assists with the inspection of roads, bridges and right-of-way to ensure safe and efficient conditions exist.
  • Assists with minor repairs and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Assists with cleaning and repairing manholes as necessary to remove debris, obstacles and to prevent infiltration.
  • Assists with landscaping maintenance to include: grooming, clearing of branches, and maintaining grass and brush.
  • Assists with improving erosion and drainage problems.

Education / Experience andLicensing Requirements :

  • Completion of coursework up through the eighth grade
  • Valid Driver’s License from state of residency
  • Class A CDL must be obtained within 6 months.

  • Preventative maintenance principles

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
