Police Academy Recruits Give Back For Thanksgiving
The latest Gwinnett County class of future officers picked up a tradition started by the class before them.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A few months ago, recruits in Gwinnett County's 95th Police Academy set a new standard, volunteering as a class to help paint a woman's home through a division of Habitat For Humanity.
Now, not to be outdone, the county's current class of police recruits have completed a volunteer project of their own.
On Saturday, 18 recruits, their training director and members of the training staff met up at Archer High School to help with a Thanksgiving meal drive.

Teaming up with StreetWise, the recruits began the day checking people into the event, then helped pack boxes of food for families to prepare on Thanksgiving Day.

For five hours, the recruits and staff helped supply about 300 families with meals.
"I selected this event due to the close proximity to the holidays and hoped it would help as many people as possible," said training staff coordinator Cpl. John Bailey. "The recruits did outstanding."
