How about becoming a weather spotter to help your community prepare for weather events. If you answered yes, then Amateur Radio may be for you.
The Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society is sponsoring TechFest 2015 on January 10th, 2015. TechFest is a nationally recognized event that presents a show-and-tell of the various aspects of Amateur “Ham” Radio. TechFest 2015 will be held at the Gwinnett Medical Center’s Resource Center, 665 Duluth Highway (GA120), Lawrenceville, GA 30046. The doors will open at 9:00am with events concluding at 2:00pm.

Other attractions include: American Radio Relay League (ARRL) exhibit, Local emergency communications (EmComm), and forums on radio related topics.
TechFest 2015 is open to the general public, and is a free event.
