Woman Shot By Gwinnett Police Officer
SWAT officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant early Thursday morning when the woman fired at them, according to police.

BUFORD, GA — A woman who fired a gun at a Gwinnett County Police officer was seriously injured Thursday morning when the officer returned fire, a police spokesperson said.
Officers with a SWAT team were attempting to serve a drug-related arrest warrant at 2493 Buford Dam Rd. in Buford at about 6:30 a.m., according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera.
As officers were entering the home from multiple locations, a woman pulled a gun and began shooting at one of the officers, Pihera said. Police believe she fired at least two times.

The officer returned fire and hit the woman multiple times, including at least once in the torso, according to Pihera. The officer was not shot, but he did injure his arm in the incident, police say.
Police believe the woman who shot at the officer was the subject of the arrest warrant but had not confirmed that as of late Thursday morning.

Eight people were reportedly in the home at the time. The remaining seven were detained by police and taken to another location for questioning. It was unclear Thursday morning whether any of them have outstanding warrants, Pihera said.
Police had been called to the Buford address where the shooting happened several times in the past 10 months, according to Pihera.

Police said SWAT team members brought the woman outside and to an ambulance following the shooting. Police had not identified the woman or the officer Thursday morning. She was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with very serious injuries and was undergoing surgery Thursday morning, Pihera said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which routinely investigates officer-involved shootings, was on the scene by mid-morning Thursday.
