Woman's Shooter Kills Self During Police Chase

A man shot and killed himself during a police chase Saturday after Gwinnett County Police say he shot a woman twice.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A man shot and killed himself during a police chase Saturday after Gwinnett County Police say he shot a woman twice, once in the chest and once in the arm. The victim is currently in stable condition, although the extent of her injuries is still unknown, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Crystal Bell and the suspect as Lance Walburn, 34.

Shortly after midnight, Gwinnett County Police officers from the West Precinct responded to reports of a person shot at 6450 Glenbrook Drive. The victim, Bell, was able to call police after being shot twice. Officers and medical personnel arrived and Bell was transported to a local area hospital still conscious and alert.

Officers determined Walburn’s location and secured the area. Arrest warrants for the suspect and a search warrant for his residence were obtained by the lead detective.

At approximately 7:15 a.m., Walburn was spotted outside of the residence and began fleeing on foot, according to police. The Gwinnett County SWAT team was able to contain Walburn's movements as he attempted to flee through multiple backyards on Glenbrook Drive. As the he neared Old Norcross-Tucker Rd, still traveling through backyards, Walburn produced a handgun and shot himself one time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Gwinnett Police report no officers were involved in the shooting and none were injured during the incident.

Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting.
