Lilburn Marks Beginning of Main Street Project

Lilburn’s Main Street Realignment Project is officially off and running.

With several city leaders in attendance, the city held a ceremonial ground-breaking Wednesday morning to mark the beginning of the $3.5-million project, which will transform the entry way to Old Town.

Main Street will be reconfigured to include a more direct intersection with Lawrenceville Highway, two roundabouts and safer traffic flow and sightlines.

“This all started with an idea, a drawing on the back of a napkin. We are excited today to witness the realization of this vision as construction begins,” Mayor Johnny Crist said in a city press release. “We didn’t get here on our own, and we thank all our partners for their critical support of this project.”

The city says the Main Street project will set the stage for further development, including a new city hall/library.
