A Community in Need - Can You Help?
A Loganville middle school teacher is trying to compile a list of available resources for parents of children looking at a bleak Christmas this year because of tough economic circumstances.

There is probably nobody more aware of the need in a community than a teacher – and according to a teacher at a middle school – the need this year is great. While it is obvious year round, it is so much more evident during the holiday season, which is why this teacher, Sherie Fancher, is so concerned.
“ I am very worried about the magnitude of need we are forecasting for this year’s holiday season,” Fancher said in an email to community press organizations. “I would like to offer parents a concise guide to resources that are available within our community.“
Fancher is asking media outlets, as well as churches and other charitable organizations, to work with her in the lead up to the holiday season. She wants to make sure that the children in the community all get to share in the holiday experience this year, despite the crippling economy.

Fancher has begun compiling an early resource list for parents and wants to be able to hand parents a list of local organizations that will be working on Christmas projects for those in need this season. She is asking that anyone who is able to contribute toward making Christmas possible for needy children in the community to get in touch with her and add their name or organization to the list.
So far, Fancher does have the Faith In Serving Humanity Secret Santa project confirmed and a few other likely programs – these include the Christmas Morning Outreach Program, the Holiday Outreach Luncheon and a program by the American Legion Post 233 Women’s Auxiliary. She is looking for confirmation on these as well as any others that might be available for the Loganville community this year.

Public Safety departments have done Shop with a Hero in past years. If they will be doing it again this year, Fancher would like to know.
“What about Angel Tree? What about Toys 4 Tots? Are they partnering with FISH again?” she asked. “Are other churches doing anything?”
Patch would like to assist Fancher in compiling this list to help parents, or anyone else in the community, in need of a little Christmas cheer this holiday season. Anyone in a position to help can either email sharon.swanepoel@patch.com or Fancher at sfancher2000@comcast.net.
