Once again it’s time to change your clocks forward on March 8, 2015. Which means when you change your clocks you should also change the battery in your smoke detectors as well.
Most people think all they need to do is change the batteries in their smoke detectors when they change the time on their clocks. Although that is a very good practice, they should also perform tests on their smoke detectors once a month.

To test the detector simply push in and hold the test button until the detector sounds. This ensures that the detector is working since some batteries doesn’t always last very long even if you change it regularly.
You can find more information about smoke detectors online at http://www.usfa.fema.gov/fireservice/ then click on the link for smoke detectors.
This also would be a good time to remember to change the filters in your appliances like your furnace. Changing the filters regularly could prevent the appliance from overheating and potentially catch fire.
If you have fire extinguishers in your home you should check these as well to ensure they are still charged and ready in case you have a fire.
