Elderly Man Killed In Loganville House Fire

Fire officials say the blaze was accidental and started by an electrical source.

LOGANVILLE, GA — An elderly Loganville man was killed in a Saturday house fire, emergency officials say.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services was not identifying the man Sunday, citing federal patient privacy laws.

Firefighters responded at 7:10 a.m. to a house fire report in the 500 block of Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road in Loganville. A caller to 911 — a relative of the victim who lives nearby — reported visible smoke and that someone was still inside.

A Gwinnett County Police officer was the first to arrive, but was unable to enter the home due to smoke and fire conditions.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the older, single-story farmhouse and flames inside. They deployed attack hose lines and entered the home to search for the victim.

Search crews eventually located an adult, male victim who was unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics began life-support measures and transported the man to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The fire appeared accidental and was caused by an electrical source, according to investigators. It caused extensive damage inside the home.

No one else was inside and there were not other injuries. A fire alarm could be heard sounding as fire crews worked to douse the flames.
