Fake Cable Guy Scams Grayson Man for Bogus Bill

Scam Alert: Caller told the man he was past due on the bill and needed a Green Dot card to pay up.

We’ve heard about a variety of phone scams all across Georgia involving someone posing as an IRS agent, law enforcement official or jailed relative and then demanding money.

Add “cable guy” to the list.

Gwinnett Police investigated a reported fraud on Sept. 22 from a Grayson man who was flimflammed out of $240 by a caller who said he was with Comcast Cable.

According to the police report, the caller told the man he was in default on his cable bill and needed to purchase a Green Dot money card to be up to date.

The man did what the man asked, but when he called Comcast to confirm the payment, he was told he had been scammed.
