Former Walton Deputy Charged in Death of Girlfriend: Report

Dwight Buchanan faces involuntary manslaughter in the death of Nikki Guined at his Walton County home on Dec. 10.

A former sheriff’s deputy faces involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct charges in the shooting death of his girlfriend while the two were in bed being intimate, according to reports.

WSB-TV reported the GBI filed charges Friday against Walton County deputy jailer Dwight Buchanan, 21, in the death of Nikki Guined, 20, at his Walton County home on Dec. 10.

The couple had argued but made up before going to bed following a night of partying with a friend, police said. The couple was reportedly being intimate when Guined asked for Buchanan’s pistol, and sometime after that she shot herself in the head, according to police.

Buchanan was placed on administrative leave, but has since been fired, WSB reported
