Friday's Final Scores

The Devils and the 'Canes score early, often to chalk up wins; Warriors fight hard but lose a heartbreaker

High schools on the Walton side of the county line played well last night, with two teams adding a W to their box scores and the other coming up a little short.

lost to the Franklin County Lions, but did not go quietly. The final score was 21-27. The Warriors came within 9 yards of tying the game late in the fourth quarter. A fumble during the snap allowed the final seconds to tick away without finding the end zone.

Still, OJ Soto's Warriors put together some impressive drives during the first half, scoring early and keeping the Lions locked in a statemate for most of the game. The offense refused to relinquish the ball for the final drive. Soto decided to "go for it" twice on fourth down, moving the chains another 10 yards both times.

The Warriors will charge into Noth Hall County to try and even their win/loss column next week. North Hall lost last night to Gainseville and is now 0-3.

defeated the Madison County Red Raiders 37-14 last night. The Devils scored early and maintained the lead throughout the game. Late in the fourth, Eric Godfree replaced most of the first string with younger players. They found the end zone one more time with seconds left in the game, racking up an impressive win.

The Red Devils will face Salem High at home next week with a 2-1 record for the season. Salem defeated Appalachee last night and go into next week at 2 - 2.

The Purple Hurricanes of Monroe Area rolled over Lumpkin County last night by a score of 23-2. The penalty plauged game seemd to drag at times, still MAHS took a commanding lead early and kept it thoughout the game. Lumpkin's defense managed to score the only two points for thier team last night with a safety.

Next week, the Canes head to Gainseville to take on the 3-0 Chastatee War Eagles. The Eagles defeated Dawson County last night and will be looking to remain undefeated next week.  The 'Canes go into next week at 2-1.
