Gas Price Drops Before Memorial Day

In the local area the price of gas is down about 20 cents over last week's price.

As the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaches, there’s finally some good news for drivers planning a roadtrip. Although still up by about $1 over Memorial Day 2010, the price of a gallon of gas has dropped by almost 20 cents over the past week.

According to a report in CNNMoney.com last year, the trend was the same in 2010. At that time it was attributed in part to a surplus of gas due to lower consumption.

After predicting that the gas price could reach $5 a gallon by Memorial Day 2011, experts are now saying the gas price has likely peaked for the summer. It is attributed to the fall off in the wholesale price of gasoline and is expected to remain down as long as the commodity price continues to drop.
