GCPS 2011 SAT Scores Top State, National Averages

Gwinnett County Public School officials released SAT scores for the Class of 2011, noting that Gwinnett test-takers again topped state and national averages on all sections. However, SAT averages at local, state and national levels decreased.

Of the Gwinnett schools in the Loganville and Grayson area, was the only school that had test scores drop. Both and high schools raised their scores over 2010 results. Grayson, however, was the only school of the three with a total score higher than the state average and all three schools were below the county and the national average.

Gwinnett SAT Highlights.

• Gwinnett’s average composite score on the SAT is 1511, a combination of the average critical reading score of 501, the average mathematics score of 521, and the average writing score of 489. (Possible scores range from 200 to 800 on each section. The highest possible composite score is 2,400.)

• Gwinnett’s total SAT average is 11 points above the national average of 1,500.

•  Gwinnett’s average is 66 points above the Georgia average of 1445.

•  Over the last two years, GCPS has experienced a 29.2 percent increase in SAT participation. In 2009, 5,796 students took the SAT in Gwinnett. This past year, Gwinnett had 7,490 SAT test takers. That is an increase of nearly 1,700 test takers over a two-year period.

In Gwinnett County, the highest scores were achieved by Brookwood High School, which totaled 1,610 for 2011. This was however a drop from 1,651 in 2010. The lowest scores were from Phoenix at a total score of 1,229 – down from 1,436 last year.
