Grayson Cluster Schools Foundation Announces 2011 Fall Kick-Off
The August 20th Gala at Summit Chase Country Club will include dinner and wine tasting.
“It’s going to be a great evening for our community and our schools,” said Joan Miller, director of the Grayson Cluster School Foundation. Referencing the GCSF motto, Miller said the kick-off is a great time to continue “Building for the Future.”
The GCSF was founded in 2000, as a means “to build an endowment to provide funds, in the form of grants to teachers, to enrich and extend educational opportunities, and to positively impact student performance in the Grayson area schools.” It is run by a board of directors which includes local community leaders, business owners, parents and teachers.
Miller said that founder John Campbell’s idea was to “promote quality schools which would positively influence growth and development in the Grayson community.” The foundation enables teachers to request grant funding for projects outside the scope of the regular curriculum.

“The funding promotes out-of-the-box thinking which exemplifies extraordinary educators,” she said.
The GCSF does not provide funding for athletics or buildings but does support a wider range of academic projects. Grants are given each year based upon requests from educators from the seven schools the foundation serves. The Gala Kick-Off is a fundraiser which will put money directly into the hands of those who teach in the Grayson cluster.
