Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the fire was under control at 10:39 a.m. and there were no injuries reported.
The fire is believed to be accidental and originated near an bathroom exhaust fan on the second floor.
The family was alerted to the fire by a smoke odor and the sounding of the fire alarm in the attic and got out safely. The fire damage was contained mostly to the attic, though there was smoke and water damage on the lower levels. The fire burned a small hole through the roof, and firefighters had to pull part of the sheetrock in the second floor ceiling to stop the fire from spreading.
“We are fortunate that the occupants were able to quickly escape and that no injuries were reported.” said Rutledge said.
