It's FRIDAY!

Are you ready for some weekend?

Friday, March 2 – Weather reports are saying we’ll have a high today of 74 – cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. The chance of rain is 40% going up to 100% in the evening with a low around 60. Saturday looks about the same ... rainy and getting cooler than the balmy temperatures we've enjoyed for the middle part of this week. We'll let you know if severe weather breaks.

Today is Read Across America Day, celebrated on March 2nd which is Dr. Seuss' birthday! Throughout the nation, kids will be donning hats to become the Cat In The Hat and reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish! Take some time and read to or with your child to commemorate this day.

We came across these other very important holidays: March 2nd is Employee Appreciation Day as well as Old Stuff Day. This is especially important if you have any older employees, I suppose. This weekend is full of revelry as Saturday the third is “I Want You To Be Happy Day” as well as “If Pets Had Thumbs Day.” More notably, it is “National Anthem Day” so you can sing a verse while you tease your pets with the can opener while smiling convincingly that their happiness is your only concern. Cats will believe this; dogs are always happy.

We want you to be happy ... and if you're looking for something for the whole family to enjoy, don't miss the open exhibit hall at Bear Hollow's Zoo at every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free and visitors can meet with the zoo staff for questions and answers as well as an up close and personal visit with various species of reptiles and amphibians.

For the grown-ups, head towards the Athens way, for Terrapin Brewery Tours on Friday and Saturday. Tour Terrapin Brewery at 265 Newton Bridge Rd, Athens, GA for a glimpse at how the Athens-based microbrewery produces its award-winning beer. Free educational tours run at 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 Wednesday through Saturday. Tastings begin at 5:30 and are available to those who purchase a souvenir glass for $10. A portion of the sale of each class is donated to local charities. Local musicians provide live entertainment. Terrapin is closed on most major holidays.

Have you got something going on that is interesting, fun, or challenging for those of us with opposable thumbs? We'd love to hear about it! Share it in the comments below!
