LCA Falls Short in Championship Game

The Loganville Christian junior varsity Lions were defeated by the Heritage Hawks on Tuesday afternoon.

The Loganville Christian Academy middle school baseball team was in action on Tuesday afternoon taking on the Hawks of The Heritage School of Newnan. Coach Brad Witcher and his Lions were coming off  a big win last week in the semi-final round against Trinity Christian. The Lions were hoping to keep the momentum going and get the win in the championship game of the Metro Area Christian Athletic Conference. Unfortunately, the Lions came up on the short end of the score, falling to the Hawks 5-1 in seven innings.

The Lions sent Austin Brown to the hill to start the game and LCA kept the game close through the first three innings, trailing the Hawks 1-0 after three.

The Hawks came to the plate in the bottom half of the fourth inning and the bats went to work. Heritage plated four runs to stretch the lead to 5-0. Coach Witcher then sent reliever Tate Gentry to the mound and the Lions retired the side. Heritage led 5-0 lead after four.

The Lion's Austin Brown led off the fifth with a walk and later scored on a bunt from Cole Cook to cut into the Hawk lead 5-1. The Lions went on to get runners on first and third with only one out, but the offense was unable to muster another run.

LCA retired the Hawks the next two at bats, thanks to strong pitching and good defense led by catcher Austin Brown who threw out two runners trying to steal.

The Lions went into the seventh with one more opportunity to try to mount a comeback. LCA got runners on first and second with no outs. The offense, which struggled to score the entire game, was unable to move the runners, and the game ended with the Lions on the losing end of the score 5-1.

Coach Brad Witcher told his team after the game that he was very proud of them and the season they had. After a very successful campaign, the Lions finished second in the conference.
