LHS Red Devil Swimmers Continue to Heat Up the Waters
Alaina Mattix became North Ga. Region Champ in 50 and 100-yard freestyle, also setting meet records, as Red Devils take 4th place in North Georgia Regional Championships.

The swim team traveled to Dalton on Jan. 21st and had their best meet of the season as they competed in the North Georgia Regional Championships. The team finished 4th overall as the girls placed 3rd and the boys 5th in their respectively events. This meet included 22 schools from multiple classifications and with over 300 swimmers in attendance.
Individual highlights for the girls included, who became the North Ga. Region champ in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle as she set meet records with state qualifying times of 25.11 and 55.36 respectively. Blayke Kortman placed 4th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.83 and 5th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.88. Chelsea Roberts finished 4th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:22.06 and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:18.13. As for the boys, Alandas McGraw finished 5th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.67 and 7th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:101.68. Sully Harris placed 8th with a time of 1:02.74 in the 100-yard backstroke and 9th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:20.94. Davis Vincent placed 7 in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:02.67 and 11th in the 100-yard free with a time of 56.50. Josh Torres finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.74.

In the relay competition the boys relay of Davis, McGraw, Harris and Torres placed 5th in the 400-yard free relay with a qualifying time of 3:45.76 and finished 5th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.10. For the girls, the 200-yard medley relay of Lauren Bowen, Blayke Kortman, Chelsea Roberts and Alaina Mattix placed 2nd with a state qualifying time of 2:07.58. The girls 400-yard free relay of Jessie Fortner, Roberts, Kortman and Mattix finished 4th with a time of 4:16.59.
LHS will compete at the State Swim Meet on Feb. 10th and 11th at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
