LHS Red Devil Swimmers Heat Up the Waters
Loganville High School swim coach David Smith gives an update on the Red Devil swim team's recent successes.

The swim team have been heating up the waters this season, participating in a nine-team invitational meet hosted by Clarke Central High School on Nov. 11th in Athens. The Devils swam well and finished 4th overall at this event from combined scores for both girls and boys. Over 150 swimmers participated in the meet.
For the girls, had an outstanding individual meet as she set two school records and finished first in both the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke with times of 53.96 and 1:03.69, respectively. Mattix qualified for the State Meet in both events of these events as well as the 50 yard freestyle, where she swam the first leg of the 200 Free Relay in a time of 25.00. Blayke Kortman also swam well and placed 2nd overall in the 50 yard freestyle (26.66) and 4th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:18.92). Chelsea Roberts had a good meet and finished 4th in the 200 yard freestyle (2:19.38) and 6th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:16.80).

The boys also swam well as Sully Harris placed 2nd overall in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.87 and 6th in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.43. Alandas McGraw had a good meet finishing 5th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.62) and 7th in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.49). Josh Torres finished 9th in the 50 yard freestyle (25.89) and Davis Vincent placed 10th in the 100 yard freestyle (58.05).
The boys A relay of Alandas McGraw, Kolbie Watters, Davis Vincent and Sully Harris placed 5th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.46 and 4th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.71. The girls A relay of Alaina Mattix, Emilee Spence, Chelsea Roberts and Blayke Kortman finished 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:59.43 and 4th in the 200-yard medley relay (2:15.31). In addition, the girls A relay of Brandi Ramsey, Mariah Garcia, Chiamaka Uzuegbunam and Analy Huerta placed 8th in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The LHS swim team also was part of the Falcon Invitational Meet hosted by Flowery Branch High School on Nov. 19th in Gainesville. This meet included 17 teams from multiple classifications and with over 450 swimmers participating. The team swam well and placed 5th overall with combined scores from both the boys and girls.
The girls A relay of Blayke Kortman, Jessie Fortner, Chelsea Roberts and Alaina Mattix qualified for the State Meet and placed 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:53.03. In addition, the girls’ 200-yard medley relay of Alaina Mattix, Blakye Kortman, Chelsea Roberts and Emilee Spence finished 6th overall with a time of 2:16.44. The boys A relay of Alandas McGraw, Kolbie Watters, Justin Fortner and Josh Torres placed 7th in both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.27) and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Individual highlights included, Alaina Mattix who set her third school record of the season, qualified for State and finished first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.06. She also placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.94) and qualified for State in this event. Blayke Kortman had a great meet, placed 1st overall in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.07 and 4th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:19.67). Chelsea Roberts swam strong and finished 5th in the 200 yard Individual Medley (2:45.55) and 8th in the 100 yard freestyle (1:06.31). For the boys Alandas McGraw swam well and placed 3rd overall in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.95 and 5th in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:15.03.The Devils next meet will be The Holiday Invitational in Carrollton on Saturday, December 3rd.
