Loganville To Celebrate 'Day of Prayer' Thursday

The local observance of the national day is set for noon at city hall.

LOGANVILLE, GA -- The city of Loganville is inviting residents to observe a "Day of Prayer" on Thursday at city hall.

The annual event, at which people are urged to pray for the nation, is set to begin at noon at city hall, at 4385 Pecan St.

According to the National Day of Prayer website, the National Day of prayer is an invitation for people of all faiths to pray for the nation.

A National Day of Prayer was first established by the Continental Congress in 1775. In 1952, the U.S. Congress approved a resolution setting aside a day each year to recognize the tradition of prayer.

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed an amended law establishing the first Thursday of every May as the official National Day of Prayer in the U.S.

On the national level, a National Day of Prayer event is set for Thursday in Washington D.C.

That event will run from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill. It will feature speeches and prayers by pastors and other religious leaders from across the country, as well as elected officials.
