🌱 Festive Fun All Weekend + Write To Santa Today

Here are the top stories in Loganville-Grayson today:

  1. Georgia's five elected public service commissioners have a lot to consider at the next vote on Tuesday that will affect many local residents who depend on Georgia Power as their electricity provider. Georgia Power and regulatory staff negotiated to an agreed $1.8 billion increase over 3 years, which equates to an increase in 2023 of about $3.60 per month, 0r 2.5 percent, on an average $128 per month power bill. The increase would jump to 4.5 percent for 2024 and 2025. The commissioners will also be considering how much Georgia Power will pay for electricity generated by solar panels. Tuesday's votes will address key changes for Georgia's largest utility. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  2. Student researchers at Georgia Gwinnett College worked with local nonprofits, like Lawrenceville Coop Ministry, to study food insecurity in metro Atlanta. Students observed the behaviors of people who use the services and the volunteers. Over 10.2 percent, or 13.5 million, households experienced food insecurity in 2021. (WSB Radio)
  3. There is still time left for your little one to drop their Christmas list in the special North Pole Express Mailbox at the Grayson Post Office! Make sure to include a return address and drop your letters to Santa in the box before Dec. 18, and the elves will make sure Santa responds to your little ones just in time. (Facebook)
  4. Here is a special highlight of local weekend festivities so you can plan ahead:
    • Ready for a weekend challenge with some fuzzy four-legged friends? Don't miss Christmas Goat Yoga with Santa at Goat Yoga Georgia starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. Make sure to purchase tickets today!
    • If you're looking for something fun for your kiddos, Controller Game Lounge in Loganville hosts a Beyblade Tournament every 4th Saturday. So, load up the kids (ages 6-13) with their toughest Beyblades and head over to compete! The tournament starts Saturday, Dec. 17 promptly at 11 a.m. and the battle ends at 12:30 p.m.
    • The Lawrenceville Arts Center is offering several events to delight audiences with festive performances and themed shows. There are various show times throughout the weekend. From a juggling show to the 'Nutcracker' ballet, and from the Festival of Trees to the classic play 'A Christmas Carol,' there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.
    • Santa is coming back to Grayson! Plan to visit The Railyard Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and enjoy 'Cookies & Cocoa With Santa.' Not only will this be a great time to snap photos with Santa, but Southeast Gwinnett Co-op would be grateful to receive non-perishable food items, personal care items, or pet food donations for local families.

  • Grayson Sweet Home Cafe is hosting 'Coffee with a Cop.' Join the Gwinnett County Police for a morning of relaxed conversation over breakfast and coffee. (9:00am-11:00am)

  • Enjoy an evening of live music at Loganville High School as the middle and high school Concert Bands perform their Winter Concerts. (LMS 6:30pm, LHS 7:30pm)
  • Moonshiners Bar & Grill - Grayson is kicking it up notch with their Ugly Sweater Party to the tunes of Dr. Kahn's pop-punk sounds. (9:00pm)

  • Today is the last day before break for our Gwinnett County students. Gwinnett County Public Schools wishes you a safe and relaxing winter break. Teachers will return for planning and development Jan. 4 and students will return to learning Jan. 5. (Facebook)
  • Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts has lots will offer a couple of fun classes this weekend. Drop in Saturday on the hour between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and try your hand at pottery or grab a reservation for a crochet class from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and walk away with your very own handmade snowflake. And don't forget to shop for those unique gifts created by local artists available in the gift shop. (Monroe Local)
  • Just a quick holiday reminder: The City of Loganville's government offices will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 22 and open back up, after the Christmas holiday, at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27. (Facebook)
