LOGANVILLE, GA -- A Loganville Police officer was honored Thursday night for going beyond the call of duty to take care of a baby.

Officer Stan Swisher was recognized at the Loganville City Council meeting.

On May 18, Swisher was involved in a call that left a 1-year-old child without its mother.

It was going to take some time to locate the next of kin, according to a City of Loganville Facebook post, and the residence "was lacking many of the necessities for the child."

Instead of just waiting, Swisher -- a father himself -- left the home and bought formula, diapers and a bottle for the baby.

When he returned, he changed the baby's diaper, prepared a bottle and then showed the child's temporary caregiver how to properly feed the child.

"Officer Swisher was recognized for his compassion and care and serving as an example of the professionalism and integrity of the Loganville Police Department," the post reads.
