Rev. Dr. Joan Radford Biles passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 13, 2015 at her home in Snellville, GA.

Joan was a native of Camak, GA and daughter of John Willis Radford and Edith Virginia Ivey of Camak, GA.

She attended grade school in Camak, GA and went on to attend Georgia State College for Women and the University of Georgia obtaining bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. Joan was a retired Methodist minister, educator, writer, singer and advocate for those in need. She devoted her life to serving others through ministry, education, music, stories and educational therapy. She was a fierce advocate for children living with Dyslexia and animals in need. Joan is a former mayor of Winterville, GA, Athens Woman of the Year, teacher at Athens Academy and in Greene County, United Methodist Minister at various churches in the North Georgia Conference and played Mrs. Santa Clause in the Athens, GA Christmas parade. Joan’s civic activities included former member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Atlanta, GA, Chair of the Winterville Marigold Festival, Founding Member of Holy Cross Anglican Church, Loganville, GA. She founded the Eagles Nest Educational Resource Center for Children who learn differently.

Surviving family include her son Jay R. Biles of Charlotte, NC.

Memorial Service will be Saturday May 30, 2015, at 1:00pm, Athens First United Methodist Church, 327 N. Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601, reception to follow.
