Monster Math Night at Trip Elementary
The math monsters are expected to be out in force tonight at Trip Elementary School in Grayson.

Gwinnett County Public School director of media relations Jorge Quintana said they are expecting a large turnout for a monster of a math event tonight.
“We're estimating around 500-600 people to attend which is quite sizable given our enrollment of approximately 840 students,” Quintana said in a press release. “The main purpose of the night is for parents and students to engage in numerous games that focus on computation, problem solving, and mathematical understanding. This year's theme is based on dominoes.”
The event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight is scheduled to take place in the downstairs hallway of in Grayson. There will be 30 different game tables set up in a casino-like atmosphere. Parents and kids will be able to learn from Trip faculty on how to play the games that will all involve the use of dominoes.

“Last year, we used dice as the focus of our math games,” Quintanta said. “At the end of the evening, parents will be given some special take-aways that will allow them to practice and play the games again at home with their child(ren).”
Quintanta said in addition to the math games, students could opt to wear a Halloween costume.

“We also have a book character pumpkin decorating contest that benefits Relay for Life. Students have decorated pumpkins to depict a popular book character,” Quintanta said. “On Monster Math Night, attendees will get to vote on their favorites.”
There will also be “super cheap” concessions, such as hot dogs, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and drinks.
