More Suspects On The Run In Walton Double-Shooting

The sheriff's office says two or three more people may have been involved in the shooting deaths of two men near Social Circle.

LOGANVILLE, GA — Multiple law enforcement agencies were on the hunt Wednesday in Walton County for people involved in the shooting deaths of two men who were ambushed trying to make a Craigslist-style sale.

One juvenile — a 16 year old from Social Circle — already is in custody in the Monday shooting deaths of two men from Meriwether County, which is about an hour southwest of Atlanta along Interstate 85.

According to the Walton County Sheriff's Office, the men had come to Clegg Farm Road, near Social Circle, to sell an item they had advertised online. Social Circle Police were called Monday afternoon to what at first was believed to be a car wreck.

But officers soon discovered that the two victims had been shot multiple times each before their car crashed into a tree.

Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman said investigators believe the men, both in their 20s, were lured to Walton County by their attackers, who intended all along to rob them.

The multi-agency manhunt, which includes the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, was targeting as few as one or as many as three additional suspects, according to the sheriff. The one teen already under arrest is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
