Cassandra Bjorge, 17, and Johnny Ryder, 19, sustained self-inflicted wounds after a SWAT standoff at an apartment in Suwanee.

SUWANEE, GA — A teen couple was in custody Sunday, suspected of killing the girl's grandparents before trying to end their own lives during a SWAT standoff in Suwanee.

Wendy and Randall Bjorge, both 63, had been found dead in their Lawrenceville home Saturday night.

They were discovered after police found their vehicle at the scene of another crime.

Johnny Ryder, 19, was accused of beating two family members in that incident, off of Rambling Woods Drive in Lawrenceville. He was in the company of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Cassandra Bjorge — Wendy and Randall's granddaughter.

Gwinnett County Police officers, who had been to the Bjorges' home, on the 1900 block of Furlong Road in Lawrenceville, earlier in the week for a welfare check but were unable to make contact, returned to find them dead in an upstairs area of the home.

Police have not publicly disclosed their cause of death, but called them apparent homicides.

Investigators worked through the night Saturday and were able to track Ryder and Cassandra Bjorge to an apartment complex on McGinnis Ferry Road in Suwanee.

When officers attempted to make contact, the suspects refused to come out of the apartment. The Gwinnett County SWAT team was then activated.

After a short standoff, the SWAT team entered the apartment and found the suspects, both suffering from self-inflicted wounds. They were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment.

No officers were injured during the standoff.

No charges had yet been filed in the case Sunday afternoon, as Ryder and Cassandra Bjorge remained under investigation.

Police say the exact manner of death and motive also remain under investigation.
