The Walton County Board of Education has named David Todd, an assistant principal at Carver Middle School, as the replacement for embattled principal Bridget Lynch.

“I am happy to announce that Mr. David Todd has accepted the position of principal at Youth Middle School," said Gary Hobbs, Superintendent of Walton County Public Schools in a press release. "Mr. Todd has worked for Walton County Public Schools for 15 years both as a middle school teacher and middle school assistant principal. He is a great advocate for our students and teachers and is a hands on administrator with an outstanding work ethic. Under Mr. Todd’s leadership, with the dedicated and professional staff at this school, I fully expect that the tradition of excellence at YMS will continue.”

Todd said he was honored by the appointment.

“I am truly fortunate and honored to be presented with this opportunity to impact students in a positive manner," Todd said in the release. "At Youth Middle School there is an outstanding staff with a proven track record of academic and athletic success combined with a history of positive collaborative relationships with parents and the community. My goal will be to support this legacy by helping everyone to contribute their individual abilities to the common purpose of student success and achievement at YMS."

Todd has worked for 16 years in middle school education, nine of them as a middle school teacher with eight of those years teaching in Walton County. He has been an assistant principal at CMS for the last seven years. He has a bachelor's degree form Georgia State University, a masters from the University of Georgia and is currently pursuing a specialist degree from UGA.

Todd was appointed following a special called meeting at the Board of Education Monday night.
