🌱 Operation Nightingale +Bay Creek Park Playground Renovation

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Loganville-Grayson.

Good morning, friends. I'm back with today's edition of the Loganville-Grayson Daily — your source for local news that matters to you. Today's updates include:

  • Our local State Rep. Rey Martinez has been named vice chairman of the House Small Business Development Committee.
  • Spirit wear sale for one Saturday only at Scotteez!
  • Take advantage of local opportunities to get in shape for little to no cost for you!

But first, today's weather:

Stay safe during your morning commute as patchy fog could pose a risk for drivers. The high is 64 and the low is 47 so temperatures have warmed up a bit. The day will be cloudy and there is a chance of rain, so keep an umbrella at the ready.

Here are the top stories today in Loganville-Grayson:

  1. Over 20 practicing nurses in Georgia have been given 30 days to surrender their nursing licenses. After an investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department, Operation Nightingale revealed that the nurses obtained their diplomas and licenses by paying at least three Florida schools roughly $15,000 for fake diplomas and transcripts. The Georgia nurses were among thousands who paid for their records. At this time, none of the nurses have surrendered their licenses and remain practicing, however, three were removed from the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The Georgia Secretary of State, who monitors nursing licenses, is working with the FBI to revoke the licenses of those nurses who don't comply. (Newsbreak)
  2. State Rep. Rey Martinez of District 111, serving parts of Gwinnett and Walton counties, has been named the vice chairman of the House Small Business Development Committee. The committee is responsible for helping small businesses flourish and create more jobs. Rep. Martinez also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee and the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee. (Monroe Local)
  3. Gwinnett County's first special-needs playground will soon receive an overhaul, thanks to approval for an almost $1 million renovation. Bay Creek Park's playground will be rebuilt with more shade, accessibility, and a more active theme. The 2017 SPLOST will fund the project, and PlaySouth was awarded the contract. The park is located between Grayson and Loganville and the playground was originally constructed in 2004. (Newsbreak)

  • Susana Morales, a 16-year-old Gwinnett County teen, has been missing since July 26, 2022. Morales was walking home to her house on Windscape Village Lane, and her phone confirmed her location, however, the last ping on her phone showed her location quickly changed. Police believe that Morales entered a car around 10:21 p.m., and her phone last pinged at Oak Loch Trace and Steve Reynolds Boulevard before the battery died or her phone was turned off. Morales is about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighed about 117 lbs. when she went missing, and she has curly, brown hair and brown eyes. Her nose and lip are pierced. Please contact the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300 with any information about Susana Morales. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
