Professional Wildlife Management-Protecting Your Investment

I would like for landowners, cattle and horse farm owners and pet owners to understand that we are here to assist you and protect your investment in your Livestock and Pets. We have a specialized skill set that very few others have and we can be effective Guardians of your property. I met with the landowner of a large cattle farm the other day who I have worked for the last 4 years. He told me that I was the most important asset to his entire operation because I had consistently removed coyotes that had been killing his newborn calves and have substantially increased the profit margin of his business. More dead coyotes means less disease, many more newborn calves living to maturity and substantially more money in his pocket. Since cattle are this landowner’s livelihood, it is imperative that we protect every heifer and their calves. That is what I am being paid to do. Since the weather has gotten so hot, we have moved from Daytime Trapping to Night Time coyote hunting operations. Whether you realize it or not, your Livestock and Pets are your Investment. You invest thousands of dollars per year in their feeding, vaccinations and upkeep. Predators uncontrolled, can financially wreck a Cattle, Sheep or Horse Operation and cause thousands of dollars in damage or loss in one night. If a landowner would be Pro Active when he sees or suspects predators are threatening his property, much of this financial loss could be averted. Remember, this is your Investment. Are you going to allow these non-native, invasive animals take it away from you. Would you allow a burglar to come into your home and rob you without making an effort to bring justice to the situation? No. You do everything you can to prevent that, locks on doors, cameras...etc. When dealing with Predators such as the Coyote, Bobcat and Feral Dogs the reality is that you can choose to remedy the situation up front for a reasonable price or you can pay substantially more to pick up the pieces after the damage is done. This overpopulation of Coyotes is not going away. The fact is that all of us are going to have to deal with them whether we want to or not. That is the Reality. “The sad part is that The Department of Natural Resources will not work with us to give us all the tools we need to better manage the coyote population. The use of Cable Restraints along with the use of Foothold traps would go along way towards helping us do a better job in managing the population. The problem is that the General public has a warped view of these tools that we use in Wildlife Management. I am providing two videos I made that will show you the truth about the foothold and the Cable restraint. I hope you will watch both.” USDA/Aphis operational studies show a 3:1 catch ratio of cable restraints over footholds. But footholds have their place and we need both here in Georgia if we are to have any chance to stem the tide of overpopulation and disease from the predators. 39 other states in the US allow their trappers to use the cable restraints along with the foothold traps. We need the same here in Georgia. These are the ONLY tools the Trappers have available to manage the furbearer populations. I am telling you the Truth when I say There is no other option. The DNR has no other Solution to the Coyote Problem. I know that for a Fact because I was in a meeting with the Decision Makers of the Wildlife Resources Division in Perry, Ga. earlier this year. I asked a question to the entire group, if you will not support us Trappers and give us all of the tools we need to do what we need to do, then what is YOUR other Solution? There was complete Silence in the Room. No one said I word for about a minute. You could have heard a pin drop. We need you, the General Public, to help us by contacting the Georgia Legislature and voicing your support for the Certified Nuisance Trappers of Georgia and the Cable Restraints to use for Coyote Population Management and Nuisance Wildlife work. We would sincerely appreciate the public strongly recommending that the Legislature over ride the wishes of the DNR and give us this vital tool in our Trappers bags. I do not expect you to vote for what you do not understand. That is why I made the two videos for the public to watch below. Cable restraints are made to ”restrain” an animal in that location until the trapper comes by the next day to release a non target animal or remove a Coyote. The restraint is made with a short cable and set so that the animal cannot become entangled. With the short cable, the animal cannot produce enough momentum to hurt himself. A cable restraint will NOT kill or injure or torture a Domestic Dog or any other animal. There is no physical way that it can. Dogs act like the are on a leash and they DO NOT fight the restraint. Actually, a cable restraint is much more human than a choke chain on a dog. A stop is placed on the cable to prevent the loop from closing all of the way and choking an animal. It will close no tighter than a typical dog collar on a pet. As I said before, they are built this way intentionally. They use no lure or bait and there is nothing about them that would attract a family pet to them. They are set on Coyote travel ways and trails at a certain height with a certain loop size. Small animals like raccoons, possums, skunks and foxes can walk under the bottom of the loop because it is set just above their heads. Trappers cannot quit trapping and allow the populations to explode as nature will take over, disease will break out like Sarcoptic Mange and the animals will die a slow, lingering death. To Me, as a Wildlife Management Professional, that is not Humane in any sense of the word. We must be good Stewards of the Wildlife that we are blessed to enjoy and the truth is that a certain number of the population must be removed each year to keep the remainder healthy and within the carrying capacity of the land. It is also the main deterrent to wildlife/human communicable diseases. I do not see why people find that so hard to understand, unless they just don’t want to understand it. It is a task that must be done to resolve animal/human/livestock/pet conflicts and protect your investments. If anyone has any questions about the videos or tools we use, you may contact me by email at lockpicker1357@bellsouth.net and I will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
We Sincerely Thank You for Your Support!
