Skaters Take to Their Wheels in Loganville

The long-awaited opening of 78 Skate in Loganville drew skaters young and old and of all skill levels this week.

Even a torrential downpour on Wednesday wasn’t enough to keep anxious skaters away from the opening of 78 Skate, the first roller rink in Loganville. Co-owner Tamie Malanga was pleased with the support of the community.

“We’ve had people in all day and had a couple of groups of eight or more come in together. Everybody seems to be enjoying it,” Malanga said. “We’ve had people sit down and eat in the snack bar. It’s been really good."

Tammy Beam, who was at the opening of the rink with a group of children, said 78 Skate was "just what Loganville needed."

“I think it’s great – it’s wonderful,” she said.

Malanga said the skaters liked the floor, which is poured concrete and not wood.

“One of our employees has skated on the wood floor and he said he really likes this one,” she said.

There were children, young and old and of varying skill levels, enjoying the rink as well as the game room. Several of them also tried their hand at the Velcro wall.

Now that 78 Skate is open, schools and civic organizations can book group events and there are party rooms that can be reserved for children’s birthdays. Information can be obtained by calling 770-554-1800. Except for Christmas Day and Jan. 1 and 2, 78 Skate will be open during the winter break.
