Summer Career Academy in Grayson

Grayson High's Technical Program puts together a special kind of camp for Gwinnett County's rising seventh and eighth-graders.

“Kids these days.” That can mean a couple of things. When said with certain inflection, it is a term of exasperation and perhaps aggravation. But the organizers of the Summer Career Academy at see much more promise in those young men and women with focus on the future.

With nine specialty camps manned by counselors that include seniors or graduates from the Technology programs at Grayson Tech, there are a great many opportunities to “try on” for the future before students commit to a course study. The 2011 program includes half day camps for Law Enforcement, Bio-Technology, Culinary Arts, Digital Media & Web Design, Commercial Photography, Sports Medicine, TV Broadcast Production, Music Technology and a full day of Robotics.

The camp runs from June 27 - 30 with morning sessions from 9 a.m. until noon and afternoon sessions from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $70 per session. The Robotics class is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and costs $140.  All rising seventh and eighth-graders currently enrolled in any Gwinnett County public school are eligible to participate.
