Tenn. Bondsmen Accused of Kidnapping Denied Bond

The bounty hunters were reportedly searching for a man wanted for failing to appear in traffic court.

The two bounty hunters from Tennessee who were charged last week after an attempted capture of a wanted man turned aggressive will remain behind bars.

Bond was denied Tuesday for Khalil Abdullah of Hixson, Tenn., and Kevin Roberson of Chattanooga, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The men face kidnapping and aggravated assault charges stemming from the Nov. 23 incident at a Castlebrook Way residence in Gwinnett County. This is an area of unincorporated Gwinnett County just east of Lawrenceville, west of Dacula and north of Grayson.

They allegedly kicked in the door of the residence looking for a man wanted in Ashland City, Tenn., for failing to appear on a traffic charge. Police said the men threatened the man’s family with firearms, and handcuffed and apprehended his wife.

The men were also initially charged with home invasion, but that charge has been dropped, the AJC said.

The kidnapping charge stems from the bailsmen’s capture of the woman. The men told police they were charging the woman with harboring a fugitive and obstructing their efforts to catch the husband. She was released.

In Tuesday’s hearing, an attorney representing Abdullah said the men were within the law in their actions.
