Schools

Tomorrow is International Walk to School Day

Sponsored by the Georgia DOT, the day is meant to encourage students to walk to school.

Schools all over the state are celebrating International Walk to School Day tomorrow, Oct. 5. More than one hundred schools are participating, including Brookwood Elementary school.

The effort is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Resource Center in an effort to reduce congestion and send a message to students and their families. This is the program's 14th year.

“International Walk to School Day events help create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize important issues such as traffic congestion, pedestrian safety, increasing physical activity among children, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community,” noted Sarah Knight, Georgia SRTS Resource Center Manager, in a press release.
