Wintry Weather Means Increase in Activity for Gwinnett Firefighters (Updated)
Incident overview from the Gwinnett County fire department for Monday, Feb. 16; majority of calls came from northern Gwinnett .

Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services personnel handled approximately 377 incidents from 7p.m. Monday night to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the department said in an updated news release.
Below is a brief synopsis of the most significant calls handled from midnight to 6 a.m.:

INCIDENTS (Tuesday midnight to 6 a.m.)
- A working house fire in the garage of a home in the 2500 block of Crumps Landing Road in Snellville. Crews found the garage well involved on arrival. One occupant was treated and released for a minor injury to the hand as he escaped the burning home. Occupants were asleep at the time and were alerted by the smoke alarm. The fire caused extensive damage. The exact cause is undetermined and under investigation.

- A working chimney fire in the 1900 block of White Top Road in Lawrenceville. Crews found smoke showing on arrival. The fire damaged the chimney chase and electrical box in one-room. There were no injuries reported.
- A tree down on a house in the 2300 block of Oakland Manor in Lawrenceville. The caller reported a tree possibly down on the back of the house. Nothing was found on arrival.
- A tree down on a house in the 500 block of Windsor Court in Lawrenceville. A tree fell through the living room of the home. There were no injuries reported.
The department deactivated its Emergency Operations Plan and returned to normal operations around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Gwinnett firefighters responded to 244 reports of emergency incidents between 7 p.m. and midnight Monday — slightly fewer than the overall number of calls handled by the department in a typical 24-hour period. Similar calls for wires down continued at a decreased rate into the overnight hours.
INCIDENT OVERVIEW
- Multiple reports of power lines down and transformer fires in various locations. The majority of calls are concentrated in the northern part of the county.
- Report of a tree down on a house in the 6000 block of Dogwood Circle in Buford. The tree penetrated the ceiling in the bedroom. No injuries were reported.
- Report of a tree down on a house in the 1300 block of Richland Creek Trail in Buford. The tree caused slight damage to the home. There were no injuries reported.
- Report of a house fire in the 5000 block of Westberry Lane in Norcross. The caller reported a possible tree down on the electrical service line and a burning smell inside the home. There was no fire on arrival and no major structural damage.
- Report of a fire in the 40 block of Chimney Walk Court in Suwanee. Caller reported a downed power line on fire behind the house.
- Report of an auto accident with injury on I-985 southbound, just south of Highway 20. Crews found one vehicle in a ditch and one vehicle overturned on arrival. There was also a tree down in the roadway north of the accident site.
- Report of auto accident with injuries on Highway 316 W/B near Harbins Road in Dacula. A vehicle reportedly struck a downed tree in the roadway.
